Used to be that businesses kept to niche of buyers. Their owners plodded on, year after year, activities known to a circle of clients, letters mailed, brochures created, ads placed in print media and that was the way of the world.
Content was always the bottom line. It helped to drive up a business’s sales or drive them down. In this 21st century era of communication, this is the one thing that hasn’t changed. Content is still the key.
But how do you write your content in an age in which the average attention span has dropped to a 140 words? It’s a tricky path that has no room for wordiness. This new world of Twitter and Facebook forces us to be all the more succinct in our messages and this includes our advertising messages. We have to know catch words, buzz words, what hits and what doesn’t. So in essense we’re still driven by content – it’s just a different sort of content.
Here’s some advice on how to work on content:
- Think. Think about the absolute apex of what you need to bring out to your social media public and drop down from there, so that your social media message takes the form of a pyramid. The most important aspect of what you’re attempting to advertise comes first, just as the most important aspect of a news article comes first.
- Be selective with words. What is the absolutely best way to describe what you’re doing? Say it in 10 words or less and then write it in five words or less.
- Is it the product or the service you want to advertise? If it’s a product, deliver a snappy punch to readers that will keep people talking about what it is you produce better than your competitors. If it’s a service, use an example of how you provided a customer solution – advertise it in the way of a headline on Twitter and tease readers to your Web site. Once they’re in and they see how effective you are at your profession you can bet people will look forward to your next post.
Use social media marketing as a tool that can help you garner your business more attention and increase sales. Do it through bullseye content that delivers a concise message and you’ll see the instant results.
